Personal Comments - After Schierstein

Bob Oakley

Most of his "retired" time is taken up by watching TV.  Poker and sports mostly.  When he's not watching poker, he plays it.  Around here (Colorado) you can play 7 nights a week in different bars. I still watch kids (mostly my 4 granddaughters) and sometimes 2 or 3 more.  I use to watch 12 kids (all under 7 with 7 of them in diapers)  I can get Bob to go along with me when I take the girls to the zoo or other outing.  He can't watch anyone on his own though.  He isn't responsible enough!  Alyson Jayde who is 4 told me about Jesus and his disciples ( she goes to a christian pre-school)  I asked her what a disciple was ( that's a big word for a 4 year old)  She looked at me like I wasn't the bright color in the box, and said it Jesus and his BFFs.  Bob says she will rewrite the Bible and call it JC and his BFFs!!.  A woman at the store asked Aly her age and she replied 4 years old.  The woman asked when was she 4.  Aly looked at her with all the wisdom in the world and stated "ON MY FOURTH BIRTHDAY"  She's a real trip!
Donna got to visit Germany a couple of times since our assignment there.  I was there when Colleen and her husband were stationed at Stuttgart and my first granddaughter was born in a German hospital there.  She was the largest baby ever born in that hospital (13 lbs 8 oz, natural childbirth too!) That was in 1990.  I went back in 2005 and took Vanessa ( the same granddaughter). We stayed with my brother John, who lives outside of Frankfurt .  We went to Berlin and visited Check Point Charlie and the memorial at the Berlin Wall. But the best was a new memorial we just tripped upon.  It was brand new, for all the Jews murdered during the war.  It was just plain stone rectangles of different heights.  About the size of a couple football fields.  Below all the walls were pictures and audios of every person lost.  It had the same feel as the Vietnam wall. (At least for me).  Bob didn't go on either of these trips.
Bob and I are going to South Dakota on July 20 for our 40th wedding anniversary!  I never thought I would be 40 years old much less be married that long.  We are going with his brother and his wife because Bob wants to gamble at Deadwood and I want to sightsee.
